One of the most powerful features of Blackbaud CRM™ is the ability to create new tabs or custom pages that aren't offered out of the box. Blackbaud CRM™ Design Mode allows a power user to customize the system to better meet your organization’s needs and tailor the end user experience. With design mode you can add pages, tabs and sections to pages, buttons, links, and much more!
Let’s get started! In part one of this three-part series, we will work though the following example: configuring a tab with a custom data list.
Step 1 – Navigate to the page you’d like to add a tab to. In this example, we’ll a tab to the Major Giving Management – Prospects page in the prospects functional area.
Step 2 – Our development team would really like to see another tab here with major gifts, 10K+, in the current month. To add this, we will toggle design mode on by clicking the design mode icon in the top right hand side of the page.
Step 3 – After toggling design mode on, click on Edit tabs in the page properties row. Then click Add. Add a caption for the tab, we'll use “Large Donors w/no Prospect Manager” then click on the ellipses next to Selections.
Step 4 – In the selections window, click Add. Again, add your Caption, then change the SelectionType to Data List.
Step 5 – Click on the new data list icon next to the magnifying glass to search. Here, you select the source view you would like to work with. For this example, we’ll select Revenue and click OK.
Step 6 – The custom tab we are creating is for our development team and they would like to see all gifts over 10K in the current month. See the screenshot below for criteria we used.
Step 7 – Once the criteria and output for the data list has been selected, we’ll click on the Set Save Options tab. Provide the Data list a name and click Save and Close.
Step 8 – Next, click Ok on the edit section screen, then click Ok again on the sections screen, then Ok on the tabs screen, finally click Save on the Edit page tabs screen.
Step 10 – That’s it. You can toggle off design by clicking on the “Toggle design mode off” button in the top right and then browse to your newly created tab.
In design mode crash course part 2 we will take the newly created tab and add it to a new page and talk about the benefits of creating pages for teams within your organization.
